Business Development Manager - Electric Power Plants (Africa, Middle East)

About the role

Caterpillar's Electric Power Division (EPD) offers integrated solutions, parts and services to commercial and industrial electric power customers worldwide, including emergency power, backup power for banks and data centres, combined heat and power for hospitals and municipal infrastructure. It is looking for a Business Development Manager to grow the electric power plant business in the Africa and Middle East (AME) region. The role covers Prime Power gensets, switchgear, enclosures and CHP equipment, and sits within a team of BD Managers and Industry Consultant Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Build strong customer relationships with key prime genset users, EPCs and engineering firms.
• Develop a pipeline for future prime sales and continuously running power plants.
• Ensure assigned customers have a positive experience.
• Serve as the industry expert for Caterpillar's Genset portfolio in EAME and CIS.
• Identify gaps in product offerings and give customer feedback to product groups.
• Create go-to-market strategies to increase prime running genset sales and lead projects to gain buy-in for new market strategies.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years' experience in the power generation industry, including sales, business development or aftermarket support.
• At least 7 years in a customer-facing business development role with a track record of growth and key customer relationships.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline (top candidates).
• Proficiency in English is essential; Arabic, Portuguese or French is an advantage.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 75%) across Southern Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
• Full-time, five days per week office-based role; relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not supported.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of power plants, prime running generators, combined heat and power and balance of system equipment.
• Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for the industry segment.
• Proficiency in Salesforce or a similar CRM system.
