Buildings Desktop Assessor

About the role

OUTsurance is seeking a detail-oriented Buildings Desktop Assessor for its Centurion team. The role sits at the heart of property insurance claims, linking policyholders, service providers and internal stakeholders. You will analyse technical scopes of work, evaluate costings against agreed industry rates and ensure repairs such as burst geysers, storm damage or general home maintenance are handled fairly and cost-effectively. The position is fast-paced and largely independent.

Key responsibilities

• Validate claims by reviewing them against specific insurance policies to confirm coverage and compliance.
• Quantify repairs by drafting scopes of work or evaluating quotes from third-party builders and service providers so costs match agreed agreements.
• Maintain accurate records, draft clear reports and handle telephone and written queries professionally.
• Negotiate with service providers and resolve client disputes or complaints.
• Ensure all work meets the company's performance standards with high accuracy and attention to detail.

Required profile

• Matric certificate and a valid driver's licence.
• Proven experience in the building industry or a relevant tertiary qualification (NQF 6 or higher) in a construction-related field.
• Comfort with numbers and calmness under tight deadlines.
• Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills; able to work independently in an unstructured environment.
• Experience in building assessment or handling insurance claims in the building sector is a significant advantage.

Required skills

• High computer literacy, with a focus on MS Word and MS Excel for reporting and data management.
