Bookkeeper – Trial Balance Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a meticulous Bookkeeper to manage day‑to‑day financial records and bring our accounts up to the trial‑balance stage. The role supports month‑end close, audits and compliance for our diversified services business in Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily supplier invoices, customer receipts and expenses accurately.
• Allocate payments and receipts in the cashbook and maintain appropriate ledgers.
• Capture and post bank statements, reconcile bank and credit‑card accounts.
• Issue and monitor customer invoices, manage ageing analysis and follow up on overdue payments.
• Handle supplier invoices, reconcile statements and prepare payment runs.
• Perform monthly balance‑sheet and general‑ledger reconciliations and prepare trial‑balance files for audits.
• Assist with monthly VAT returns, EMP501 reconciliations and SARS compliance.

Required profile

• Grade 12 minimum; tertiary finance or accounting qualification is advantageous.
• At least 10 years proven bookkeeping experience up to trial‑balance level.
• Strong numerical ability, high attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Commitment to data confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero or Sage accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
