Backend Engineer II

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer II to join our global EdTech technology team. In this high‑ownership position you will design, build, and maintain the core services that power AI‑enabled learning products for students, teachers, and education partners worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, webhooks, and integration layers.
• Design secure, scalable foundations for multi‑tenant education platforms.
• Implement data flows for assessments, feedback, learner activity, reporting and operational workflows.
• Build authentication, authorisation, permissions and audit capabilities.
• Work with PostgreSQL, BigQuery and modern cloud infrastructure, deploying containerised services.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance and maintainability of backend systems.
• Investigate production incidents, determine root causes and deliver durable fixes.
• Collaborate with product and AI engineers to translate product needs into scalable technical solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Proven ability to own end‑to‑end backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Self‑directed mindset with strong debugging and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
