Backend Engineer II – Build Scalable AI‑Enabled EdTech Services

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer II to join our global EdTech technology team. In this high‑ownership position you will design and maintain the backend infrastructure that powers AI‑enabled learning products for students, teachers and education partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, webhooks and integration layers.
• Build secure, scalable foundations for multi‑tenant education platforms.
• Design reliable data flows for assessments, feedback, learner activity and reporting.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, permissions and audit capabilities.
• Work with PostgreSQL, BigQuery and modern cloud infrastructure to deploy containerised services.
• Improve system reliability, observability, performance and maintainability.
• Investigate production incidents, determine root causes and deliver durable fixes.
• Collaborate closely with product and AI engineers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Proven ability to own end‑to‑end backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Self‑directed mindset with strong debugging and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
