Auxiliary Nurse – Pre‑Consultation Patient Assessment

About the role

The Auxiliary Nurse supports the Registered Nurse in preparing patients for consultation. This role focuses on accurate patient assessment, documentation, and ensuring a safe clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive patients in the pre‑consultation area, verify identity and record reason for visit.
• Measure and document vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, SpO₂, weight, height, BMI, blood glucose where applicable).
• Identify abnormal readings and promptly report them to the Registered Nurse.
• Perform basic screening and assist with patient administration, ensuring demographic details and electronic health records are up‑to‑date.
• Maintain accurate handover of patient information to clinicians.
• Record observations clearly, keep patient records complete, legible, dated and signed.
• Follow infection‑control protocols, clean and disinfect equipment between patients, and report faulty equipment.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, reception staff and other healthcare workers, communicating respectfully and escalating concerns when needed.

Required profile

• Ability to accurately assess and record patient observations and vital signs.
• Strong attention to detail and observation skills to detect abnormalities.
• Capability to follow instructions from the Registered Nurse and adhere to clinic protocols.
• Professional demeanor with respect for patient confidentiality.
• Willingness to participate in clinic meetings, training and quality‑improvement activities.

Required skills

• Vital signs measurement (BP, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, SpO₂, weight, height, BMI, blood glucose).
• Operation of clinical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, thermometers, glucometers and scales.
• Electronic health record (EHR) documentation and data entry.
