Automation & Control Systems Engineer (Mining)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Automation and Control Systems Engineer to join our engineering team in Johannesburg. The role focuses on designing, programming, commissioning and managing industrial automation and process control systems for mining and mineral processing plants.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop industrial control panels and automation systems.
• Program, test and commission PLC and HMI systems.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and optimise existing automation solutions.
• Lead commissioning activities for ball mills, scrubbers, vibrating screens, conveyor systems and reagent plants.
• Manage refurbishment and upgrade projects within processing plants, ensuring cost and schedule compliance.
• Analyse operational data, prepare technical reports and provide commercial support.

Required profile

• BEng/BTech in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or Automation Engineering.
• 3–8 years of experience in industrial automation or process plant environments.
• Strong PLC and HMI programming background.
• Experience with MCCs, VSDs, instrumentation and industrial networks.
• Ability to travel to project and mining sites and hold a valid driver’s licence.
