Assortment Optimisation Manager

About the role

The Assortment Optimisation Manager will lead the development and execution of customer‑centric assortment modules across South Africa and the broader African market. The role focuses on macro, midi and micro‑space management, data analysis and opportunity identification to drive space productivity and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement assortment strategies based on market trends, consumer preferences, sales history and brand positioning.
• Collaborate with merchandising, buying and marketing teams to align assortment plans with purchasing, vendor negotiations and promotional activities.
• Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify opportunities for differentiation and enhancement.
• Optimize inventory levels to minimise excess stock and stock‑outs while maximising turnover.
• Lead new product introductions, pricing and markdown strategies aligned with product life‑cycles and financial targets.
• Analyse sales data, customer feedback and performance metrics to evaluate assortment success and drive continuous improvement.
• Lead and mentor a team of assortment planners, setting goals and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in assortment planning, retail strategy or category management.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and market insights.
• Leadership experience managing a team of planners.
• Understanding of shopper behaviour, market research and financial objectives.
