Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer – Human Anatomy & Integrated Pathology

About the role

The Faculty of Health Sciences at Nelson Mandela University seeks an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer to lead teaching and curriculum development in Human Anatomy, Human Biology and Integrated Pathology for first‑ and second‑year medical and health‑science students.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, practical sessions and assessments in Histology, Embryology and systems‑based Gross Anatomy.
• Coordinate and continuously improve an integrated Human Anatomy module, ensuring horizontal and vertical curriculum alignment.
• Design rigorous, learning‑outcome‑based assessments and provide proactive academic support to enhance student retention and wellbeing.
• Maintain documented evidence of teaching excellence and positive student feedback.
• Implement innovative, technology‑enhanced learning approaches and blended delivery methods.
• Conduct original research, supervise postgraduate students and secure external funding for high‑impact outputs.
• Participate in academic governance, professional bodies and departmental leadership initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in Human Anatomy, Human Biology, Pathology or a closely related discipline.
• Extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical or health‑science students.
• Demonstrated record of curriculum design, module coordination and quality assurance.
• Strong publication record and ability to attract research funding.
• Commitment to inclusive, student‑centred pedagogy and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
• Ability to adapt to institutional learning platforms and internal software systems.
