About the role

The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences seeks an experienced academic leader to serve as an Associate Professor/Professor (permanent) and Academic Head of Department on a five‑year contract, with the possibility of renewal. The role combines high‑level teaching, research, and strategic departmental leadership within the Department of Geology.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules in geology and related subjects.
• Publish peer‑reviewed scientific papers and present findings at conferences.
• Secure research funding from national and international agencies.
• Supervise master’s and PhD students.
• Provide strategic and operational academic leadership to position the department as a regional and international leader.
• Drive curriculum innovation, teaching excellence, and research performance.
• Lead initiatives to increase research income and third‑stream revenue.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration, industry engagement, and partnership development.
• Oversee departmental finances, budgeting, infrastructure, and human resources.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and quality assurance.
• Represent the department in faculty and university governance structures.
