Associate Accountant – Hybrid, Stellenbosch

About the role

Our client, a leading US‑based agriculture and technology company, is seeking an Associate Accountant to join its finance team in Stellenbosch on a hybrid basis. Reporting to the South Africa Accounting Manager, you will help maintain accurate financial records, support month‑end and year‑end close, and ensure compliance with South African accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post general ledger journal entries and assist with month‑end and year‑end closing.
• Perform bank, debtor and creditor reconciliations.
• Process accounts payable and receivable, supplier invoices, expense claims and payment runs.
• Assist with VAT calculations and statutory submissions such as PAYE, UIF and SDL.
• Maintain supporting documentation and accurate financial records.
• Support budgeting, variance analysis and preparation of financial reports.
• Help prepare for internal and external audits.
• Respond to finance‑related queries from internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Intention to pursue a SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA qualification.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software or ERP systems.
