Assistant Resident Engineer (Structures)

About the role

The Assistant Resident Engineer supports the delivery of a large, multidisciplinary water treatment works project in KwaZulu-Natal. The role involves assisting the Resident Engineer with construction supervision, monitoring programme and budget performance, ensuring compliance with designs, quality standards and health and safety requirements, administering contracts and claims, preparing reports and payment certificates, and coordinating stakeholders and site teams.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee construction works to ensure full compliance with approved designs and specifications.
• Supervise the planning, coordination and implementation of construction works.
• Manage the contractor’s construction programme and budget.
• Control drawings and design documentation, ensuring records remain accurate and up to date.
• Prepare and issue payment certificates and assess contractual claims.
• Manage health and safety on site, ensuring full compliance with applicable requirements.
• Prepare monthly progress reports covering programme performance, site activities and incident reporting.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including the client, community, landowners and other relevant entities.

Required profile

• Minimum qualification: BSc Eng, BEng, BTech or equivalent in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng and registration with SACPCMP.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Resident Engineer on complex, multidisciplinary engineering construction contracts.

Required skills

• Proven working knowledge of the General Conditions of Contract (GCC) 2010 and 2015.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Project (MS Project).
