Assistant Resident Engineer – Bridge Construction

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to support the construction supervision of the Msikaba River Bridge, one of South Africa's largest bridge projects. The role reports to the Resident Engineer and Chief Resident Engineer and focuses on detailed construction programme monitoring and contract administration.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and report on the construction programme using CCS Candy.
• Manage technical and contractual aspects on‑site.
• Coordinate resources for site supervision and ensure compliance with the firm’s Quality Management System.
• Track progress of production processes, off‑site assembly, and remote construction activities.
• Prepare quantities, payment certificates, and variation orders.
• Compile completion and close‑out reports at project hand‑over.

Required profile

• Extensive experience (6‑15 years) in construction planning and supervision, with at least 5 years managing programmes for major infrastructure.
• BSc Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CCS Candy construction programming software.
