Assistant Manager – Retail Store

About the role

My client is searching for a strong Assistant Manager for a busy retail store in Paarl. The Assistant Manager supports the Area Manager in daily store operations, drives sales performance, ensures excellent customer service and maintains high operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Area Manager in achieving sales targets and KPIs.
• Assist with daily store operations, opening and closing procedures.
• Analyze sales performance and implement action plans to improve results.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and handle queries or complaints professionally.
• Lead the team on the sales floor to drive engagement and maintain a welcoming, clean store environment.
• Assist with recruitment, training, development, scheduling and performance management of staff.
• Ensure visual merchandising standards, floor changes, promotions and new product launches are executed.
• Support stock receiving, replenishment, stockroom organization and conduct stock counts.
• Minimize shrinkage by following loss‑prevention procedures and investigating variances.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, health & safety regulations and support store audits.
• Act as Store Manager in their absence when required.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Previous experience in retail, receiving, warehousing or stock administration; stationery retail experience is an advantage.
• Strong computer skills, including POS and ERP systems and Excel.
• High attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work under pressure.
• Good communication, problem‑solving and customer service skills.
• Physically fit and able to work in a fast‑paced environment.

What we offer

• Basic salary of R12 000 per month.
