Assistant Manager: Management Accounting

About the role

Armscor is advertising an Assistant Manager: Management Accounting position (reference DY26/10/01, Grade 1) based in Simon's Town, Cape Town. The role provides project-specific financial management and accounting services, managing budgets, cost control, reporting and payments to support maintenance, upgrade and refit projects of SA Naval Vessels, in line with Armscor's financial policies, PFMA regulations and project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage project budgets, expenditure and cost control in line with approved funding
• Prepare and maintain budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections and financial models
• Monitor budget performance against actual expenditure and analyse variances
• Reconcile project budgets, commitments and general ledger accounts
• Prepare financial journals, accruals, adjustments and budget submissions
• Provide financial reporting, variance analysis and funding insights to management and stakeholders
• Process and validate supplier and contractor payments, and review invoices and claims
• Liaise with suppliers, contractors and project teams on payment and invoice discrepancies
• Support audit processes, funding reconciliations and project financial compliance reporting

Required profile

• B-Tech or degree in Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Management Accounting, ACCA, CIMA or similar
• Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in accounting and auditing
• Minimum 3 years of management experience
• Added advantage: registration with SAIPA or SAICA, and experience in the defence or public sector

Required skills

• Financial accounting and costing
• Knowledge of National Treasury regulations, GRAP and PFMA
• Full MS Office package
• Strong report writing, presentation and communication skills, and problem-solving
