Assistant Maintenance Manager

About the role

Mount Nelson, a Belmond hotel in Cape Town, is looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager. The role keeps the hotel's facilities and equipment in good condition so that the team can deliver a luxury guest experience. It works closely with the Chief Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule and implement a maintenance programme for buildings, plant and equipment, and for new building and improvement projects, together with the Chief Engineer.
• Plan and run a preventative maintenance programme covering heavy machinery, air conditioning, daily routines and specialised equipment.
• Order and distribute spare parts, tools and supplies on time, and manage their inventory so that frequently needed items are available for emergencies.
• Oversee routine maintenance and the quick resolution of maintenance issues, and assess the work of the maintenance team and external contractors against quality standards.
• Ensure health and safety standards are followed and that audit action items are remedied promptly.
• Act on requests from guests, management and employees in a timely way.
• Inspect the hotel regularly with the Chief Engineer or supervisors to find problems and plan improvements, and monitor that the maintenance team meets departmental standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar field or role at a managerial level.
• Relevant technical qualifications.
• Previous experience in a luxury hospitality environment is advantageous.
• Experience with contractor scheduling and small project management.

Required skills

• General knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, kitchen and related trades.
• Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance, generators, pumps, air conditioning, refrigeration and solar plants.
• Thorough understanding of procurement principles and inventory management.
