Assistant Director – Reporting

About the role

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government is seeking an Assistant Director – Reporting to lead the coordination, review and implementation of its financial accounting systems. The role will ensure that all financial reporting aligns with statutory requirements and departmental policies, supporting transparent and accountable management of public funds.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, review and implement financial accounting systems and procedures in line with relevant legislation, regulations, frameworks and departmental policies.
• Prepare, manage and present in‑year and annual financial reports on recorded financial affairs and financial systems.
• Monitor compliance with financial legislation and public‑sector accounting standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate data capture and timely reporting.
• Support audit processes and respond to audit findings related to financial reporting.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and implementation of accounting systems, preferably within the public sector.
• Strong understanding of South African public‑sector financial regulations and frameworks.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and present clear, concise reports.
