Assistant Director – Monitoring & Awareness (Children’s Commissioner)

About the role

The Department of the Premier’s Children’s Commissioner Office in the Western Cape Government is seeking an Assistant Director to lead monitoring and awareness activities focused on the well‑being of children across the province. This senior position will combine advocacy, oversight and staff supervision to ensure children’s rights are protected and promoted.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate the well‑being of children in the Western Cape.
• Advocate for children’s rights, youth development and community initiatives.
• Supervise and guide staff who carry out monitoring and advocacy functions.
• Coordinate with relevant government and community partners to strengthen child protection measures.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for senior officials and policy makers.

Required profile

• Suitable qualifications and demonstrated competence for a senior monitoring role.
• Preferable experience in promoting children’s rights, youth and community development, and child protection within the Western Cape.
• Strong understanding of the provincial context and legislative framework governing child welfare.
• Ability to lead and manage a team of staff members.
