Armature Winder

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled Armature Winder with proven experience in Eskom power generation and distribution environments. The role involves dismantling, rewinding, repairing, testing, and re‑assembling heavy‑duty electrical machines such as AC/DC motors, generators, alternators and transformers while adhering to strict public‑sector governance and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, rewind, repair and overhaul high/low voltage AC and DC motors, generators, alternators and Eskom transformer components.
• Collect accurate winding data, map core designs and determine insulation classifications before stripping machines.
• Perform core loss tests, Megger insulation resistance checks, surge tests and bar‑to‑bar micro‑ohm testing in line with SANS and Eskom standards.
• Ensure all work complies with Eskom technical specifications, plant safety regulations and PFMA asset‑handling requirements.
• Conduct pre‑work risk assessments, complete work permits for regulated generation zones and safely operate specialized electrical tools and overhead cranes.

Required profile

• National Technical Certificate (N2‑N6) in Electrical Engineering.
• Valid Section 13 or Section 26D Mechanical/Electrical Trade Test Certificate (Armature Winder designation mandatory).
• 3‑5 years post‑trade experience in an Eskom power station, distribution depot or accredited heavy‑electrical workshop serving state entities.
• Strong understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) as it relates to state‑owned assets and procurement reporting.
