AIT Technician – RF & Digital Communication Hardware

About the role
As an AIT Technician you will be responsible for hands‑on assembly, integration and testing of RF and digital communication units, from engineering models through to flight hardware. You will collaborate with production, quality and development engineers to build, test and troubleshoot units to space‑industry workmanship and quality standards while helping to scale up manufacturing volumes.
Key responsibilities
- Assemble, integrate and test RF and digital communication units, including fine‑pitch PCB, cable and harness work, and mechanical integration.
- Perform functional, environmental and RF performance testing using spectrum analysers, vector network analysers, signal generators, power meters and oscilloscopes.
- Troubleshoot production failures, conduct root‑cause analysis down to component level and document findings.
- Support industrialisation tasks such as test‑jig development, work‑instruction creation and design‑for‑manufacture feedback.
- Assist with product qualification campaigns, including thermal cycling, vibration and thermal‑vacuum testing.
Required profile
- South African citizenship or valid work permit.
- B‑Tech degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) with relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience as an AIT Technician working with RF and communication systems.
- Proven experience in an electronic engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail, methodical problem‑solving and ability to work autonomously in a fast‑growing production setting.
Required skills
- Fine‑pitch PCB assembly and cable/harness integration.
- Use of RF test equipment: spectrum analyser, vector network analyser, signal generator, oscilloscope, power meter.
- Component‑level fault finding on analogue, digital and RF circuits.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials and work instructions.
- ESD‑safe handling and moisture‑sensitive device procedures.
- Computer literacy for recording and reporting test results.
