Afrikaans Subject Specialist

About the role

The Afrikaans FAL Subject Specialist will shape how Huddle delivers Afrikaans instruction to senior and FET learners, many of whom encounter the language as a second or additional language. You will design engaging, curriculum‑aligned content that builds proficiency and motivation in an online learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support baseline assessments and analyse learner gaps in Afrikaans FAL proficiency.
• Develop bridging content and intervention strategies grounded in second‑language acquisition principles.
• Design and script curriculum‑aligned video lessons for Grades 8‑12.
• Create resources that develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills online.
• Set formal and informal assessments that meet CAPS Afrikaans FAL requirements.
• Analyse performance data and adapt content and interventions accordingly.
• Identify culturally resonant examples and motivational design to improve learner attitudes.
• Collaborate with teachers, conduct classroom observations, and run targeted remediation programmes.
• Design and facilitate teacher professional development on Afrikaans FAL instruction and Huddle resources.
• Maintain project documentation and ensure timely delivery with clear communication.

Required profile

• BEd or PGCE with a specialisation in Afrikaans First Additional Language, senior and/or FET phase.
• Experience teaching Afrikaans FAL, preferably 3+ years in a low‑ or no‑fee school.
• Demonstrated ability to design curriculum resources and create content for online or blended environments.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret learner data and adjust interventions.
• Ability to work closely with teachers and adapt content to real classroom challenges.
