Admiral Nurse – Dementia Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to join our dementia care team as an Admiral Nurse. Working in partnership with Orkney Health & Care and Dementia UK, the role focuses on delivering relationship‑centred care to individuals living with dementia in the Orkney community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist nursing care to people with dementia, ensuring safety, comfort and dignity.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Offer support, advice and education to families, carers and community partners.
• Participate in case reviews, audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the Admiral Nurse network and share best practices.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC‑registered) with current practising licence.
• Demonstrated experience in dementia or relationship‑centred care.
• Commitment to working Monday‑Friday office hours, 35 hours per week, with flexibility for full‑time or part‑time arrangements.
• Willingness to engage in secondments or development opportunities.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and care planning for dementia patients.
• Knowledge of dementia best practice guidelines and legislation.
• Effective communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
