Accounting Supervisor / Accounting Manager

About the role

Our client, a reputable accounting, tax and auditing firm in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town, is seeking an Accounting Supervisor/Manager to lead client portfolios and support a dynamic team. The role requires a technically strong, reliable, and organised professional who can ensure high‑quality delivery of accounting services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise accounting and outsourcing client portfolios.
• Review work performed by junior accountants, trainees and other staff.
• Prepare and review annual financial statements, management accounts and working papers.
• Monitor deadlines, workflow, turnaround times and client deliverables.
• Assist with Xero processing, reconciliations, management reports and client support.
• Ensure VAT, PAYE and SARS compliance matters are addressed.
• Identify bottlenecks, technical issues and escalations.
• Support staff development, training, performance feedback and accountability.
• Implement improved processes, checklists and quality standards.
• Liaise directly with clients in a professional, service‑oriented manner.

Required profile

• Completed SAIPA / CIMA / SAICA articles or equivalent experience.
• 4‑7 years’ experience in an accounting firm or professional services environment.
• Experience supervising or reviewing junior staff (advantageous).
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail.
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English, with excellent written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero.
• Working knowledge of CaseWare and/or GreatSoft (advantageous).
• Understanding of VAT, PAYE, and SARS compliance.
