Accountant – South Africa (IFRS & Tax)

About the role

We are seeking a diligent Accountant to manage our financial records in South Africa, ensuring compliance with local regulations and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The role involves close collaboration with headquarters and external auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of accounts in line with South African law and IFRS.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and petty cash.
• Coordinate annual statutory audits and internal control reviews.
• File all required tax returns (VAT, corporate income tax, WHT, social tax, land/property tax) on time.
• Handle VAT refund processes and reconcile tax ledgers.
• Liaise with tax authorities during inspections and respond to queries.
• Monitor changes in local accounting and tax legislation and implement updates.
• Support budgeting and financial planning aligned with HQ requirements.
• Implement and strengthen internal financial controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience in South Africa with strong knowledge of local tax and accounting laws.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Fluent English for reporting to headquarters.
• Analytical mindset, high accuracy, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
