Accountant – Project Costing & Financial Reporting

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and detail‑oriented Accountant to join our finance team within the NDT Services and Heat Treatment sector. The role is hands‑on and focuses on project‑based costing, job card administration, financial reporting, and supporting management with strategic financial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accurate project cost accounting for all NDT and heat‑treatment jobs.
• Open, track, and close job cards in coordination with operations and project managers.
• Allocate labour, material, subcontractor and equipment costs to job cards and monitor budgets.
• Prepare project profitability reports and cost‑to‑completion analyses.
• Produce monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets and cash‑flow statements.
• Compile VAT returns, PAYE reconciliations and other statutory submissions.
• Assist with year‑end audit preparation and liaison with external auditors.
• Oversee creditors and debtors, manage supplier reconciliations and monitor debtors ageing.
• Support annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Supervise junior finance staff, review their work and maintain internal controls.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting, National Diploma in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
• 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a services, projects or engineering environment.
• Proven experience with project/job costing and management accounts.
• Strong understanding of VAT, PAYE and statutory compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.

• Pastel (or similar accounting software).
• Sage (or similar accounting software).
• SYSPRO (or similar accounting software).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
