VP of Systems Engineering

About the role

Share is building Africa’s internet backbone by aggregating under‑utilised telecom assets. We are looking for a VP of Systems Engineering to own and scale the network‑facing infrastructure that enables ISP partners to deliver broadband services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and operate the central FreeRADIUS proxy architecture that routes authentication requests to partner RADIUS servers.
• Manage per‑partner FreeRADIUS instances, including database back‑ends and Hono API overlays for subscriber CRUD operations.
• Collaborate with the network team to define and validate BNG (Broadband Network Gateway) configurations and integration points.
• Develop and maintain deployment scripts, monitoring, and fail‑over mechanisms to ensure high availability.
• Troubleshoot authentication failures in production and provide rapid resolution for ISP partners.
• Scale the system from a handful of ISP clients to hundreds, establishing technical standards and roadmaps.
• Recruit, mentor, and lead a growing systems engineering team.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with a player‑coach mindset, comfortable working hands‑on while building a team.
• Proven experience in network‑oriented systems engineering and large‑scale authentication infrastructure.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to act as the escalation point for critical incidents.

Required skills

• FreeRADIUS and RADIUS proxy configuration.
• BNG integration and network authentication concepts.
• API development and integration (Hono API overlay).
• Scripting for deployment and automation (e.g., Bash, Python).
• Monitoring and fail‑over design for high‑availability services.
