Various Technical and Support Positions – Thembisile Hani Local Municipality

About the role

Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is recruiting for several permanent positions across its Technical Services and Social Services departments. Roles include General Assistant, Heavy Plant Operator, Groundsman, Water Sampler, Light Duty Operator and Truck Driver.

Key responsibilities

• Perform labouring activities for water reticulation systems, including manual excavation, back‑fill of trenches, construction and upgrading of manholes, valve chambers and drainage maintenance.
• Operate heavy plant and vehicles for waste collection, material transport, site preparation and disposal activities, ensuring safety inspections and compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 / NQF Level 2 education with 6‑12 months relevant experience (or basic literacy with driver’s licence for vehicle‑operating roles).
• Physically fit and able to perform manual and mechanical tasks in field conditions.

Required skills

• Manual excavation and back‑fill techniques.
• Operation of heavy plant equipment and truck‑mounted machinery.
• Use of water sampling kits (chlorine kit, dissolved‑oxygen meter, temperature and turbidity instruments).
• Driving and maneuvering heavy vehicles (code 14, EB, C licences as applicable).
