Various Permanent Municipal Positions – Planning, Technical & Heavy Plant

About the role

The Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is recruiting for a range of permanent positions within its Planning & Economic Development Services and Technical Services departments. Roles include Assistant Manager – Local Economic Development, Technician – Roads, Heavy Plant (Excavator) Operator, Truck Driver and General Assistant, all based at the Mthombomuhle (Kwaggafontein) workstation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, revise and implement local economic development strategies, policies and programmes, and support small‑medium‑enterprise growth.
• Monitor, maintain and report on roads and storm‑water infrastructure, perform quality control on construction works and assist with tender documentation.
• Operate heavy plant equipment such as excavators and truck‑mounted machinery, conduct safety inspections and perform routine maintenance.
• Drive municipal vehicles, deliver services to designated points and support maintenance of waterborne sewer reticulation systems.
• Perform sewerage drainage tasks, including septic tank pumping, cleaning and minor repairs.

Required profile

• Relevant minimum education – Grade 12 for most roles; a tertiary qualification in Economics, Development Studies, Business Administration or a National Diploma in Civil Engineering for specialised positions.
• Professional registration where required (e.g., ECSA candidate technician/technologist) and a valid driver’s licence (code 14 for heavy plant and truck drivers).
• Experience ranging from 1‑2 years for entry‑level assistants to at least 5 years in local economic development with supervisory experience for the assistant manager role.
