About the role
The Unit Manager – Theatre will lead the day‑to‑day operations of a busy surgical unit, ensuring high‑quality patient care while managing staff, budgets and compliance with South African health standards.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, monitor and coordinate all unit activities, including ward administration and equipment control.
- Mentor, coach and develop nursing staff, overseeing ward clerks, RNs, ENs and ENAs.
- Manage the unit budget, drive cost‑saving initiatives and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Ensure compliance with SANC, DOH and National Core Standards, and uphold patient advocacy policies.
- Oversee agency staffing, identify quality‑improvement opportunities and enforce safety protocols.
Required profile
- Bachelor or Diploma in Nursing (or B. Cur) and a qualification in Operating Room Nursing.
- Nursing Administration qualification and current registration with the South African Nursing Council.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience, preferably in theatre nursing within a private hospital.
