Unit Manager – Maternity (Hospital Group)

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the maternity unit within a hospital group, ensuring high‑quality nursing care and service delivery across a multidisciplinary team. The role includes coordinating capacity building, mentoring, coaching, training and development for staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, cost‑effective, quality patient care in line with the clinical governance strategy and evidence‑based practice.
• Evaluate the patient journey through patient experience feedback and stakeholder input.
• Monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with patients about their care and promote health and wellbeing of patients and employees.
• Ensure infection‑prevention principles and international standard precautions are adhered to.
• Implement group quality initiatives and liaise with public liability on potential risk incidents.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (B. Nursing/Diploma Nursing R425).
• Post‑graduate Diploma in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing.
• Minimum 5 years experience in maternity as a midwife/manager.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council and compliance with the SANC code.

Required skills

• Compulsory BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Advanced computer literacy.
