Unit Manager – ICU, Paediatric Ward & NICU

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the ICU, Paediatric Ward and NICU teams to deliver safe, high‑quality nursing care. Reporting to senior clinical leadership, the role ensures compliance with professional standards, ethical practice and multi‑disciplinary quality assurance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage staffing acuities and skill mix to provide cost‑effective, high‑quality patient care.
• Oversee departmental budgets, billing, stock management and purchasing.
• Identify and implement quality‑improvement initiatives, monitoring outcomes and reporting incidents.
• Ensure compliance with safety legislation, equipment maintenance and asset registers.
• Coordinate capacity‑building activities, mentoring and training for nursing staff.
• Monitor patient journey, experience and clinical outcomes, promoting infection prevention and health‑wellbeing.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with extensive experience in critical care, paediatrics or neonatal units.
• Proven leadership and management experience in a hospital setting.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, risk management and financial stewardship.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of incident management systems (IMS) and relevant safety legislation.
• Ability to analyse quality indicators and clinical data.
• Proficiency in budgeting, cost control and resource allocation.
