Underground Auto Electrician - Africa Operations

About the role

AUMS, part of the Perenti group, is a specialist underground contract mining services business operating across Africa with a fleet of underground mining equipment. It is looking for experienced underground auto electricians for its African operations on a 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off roster. The main focus is passing on experience and acting as a role model so that local workers develop their skills.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment safely, following procedures, regulations and the service sheet.
• Use skill and experience to minimise downtime on machinery.
• Ensure maintenance is recorded and reported correctly.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the workshop and working areas and keep parts at minimum stock levels.
• Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals.
• Report equipment faults to the Maintenance Foreman so they can be scheduled into the workshop.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience in surface and/or underground mining on large mobile equipment.
• Experience training less qualified tradespeople to a high standard in an underground contracting environment.
• Proven knowledge of remote control systems, either RCT or Sandvik.
• Strong background with latest-generation underground mobile equipment and automation systems.
• International driver's licence; a full pre-employment medical, site-specific clearances, a national police clearance and required vaccinations are needed.
