Tutor - Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase Teaching)

About the role

Lyceum College invites applications from qualified and passionate individuals to become tutors for its Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching programme. The role supports student success in a distance learning environment through academic guidance, tutorial facilitation, assessment support and student wellness initiatives. Modules available include Academic Literacy, English 1, Conversational Afrikaans, Conversational isiZulu, Conversational Sesotho, Mathematics 1, Life Skills 1, Critical Thinking, Afrikaans 1 and Teaching Practice 1 and 2.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate one online tutorial session per month for each allocated module.
• Provide academic support and guidance to students.
• Mark tutorial activities and give constructive developmental feedback.
• Conduct student wellness check-ins and identify students who need extra support.
• Respond to student queries within agreed turnaround times.
• Monitor student participation and engagement.
• Maintain accurate records of tutorial attendance and student interactions.
• Collaborate with module coordinators and academic staff.
• Adhere to institutional policies, procedures and academic standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Education Honours (BEd Honours) in a relevant field.
• Teaching, tutoring, facilitation or academic support experience in higher education or schools.
• Strong subject knowledge in the relevant discipline.
• Access to a computer and reliable internet; ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Added advantage: distance or online education experience, tutorial facilitation experience, SACE registration and postgraduate qualifications.

• Communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to engage students online.
• Knowledge of student-centred teaching and learning.
• Digital learning platforms and educational technologies.
