Transit Plant Director

About the role

The Transit Plant Director will lead the planning, execution and continuous improvement of multiple manufacturing and assembly lines at our Ekurhuleni facility. Reporting to regional leadership, the role is responsible for delivering on‑time, high‑quality products while meeting financial targets and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement business strategies, operating plans and budgets to achieve profitability, EBIT and cash‑flow targets.
• Direct planning, scheduling and execution of manufacturing, product lines and assembly activities to ensure on‑time delivery and quality.
• Drive localisation of manufacturing methods and components, including repairs and overhauls, across in‑house and third‑party sites.
• Lead hiring, training and performance management of staff, fostering a high‑performance culture and ensuring safety and compliance.
• Manage relationships with internal functions (engineering, supply chain, commercial) and external partners (customers, suppliers) to communicate progress, resolve issues and unlock opportunities.
• Oversee site compliance with statutory regulations, BBBEE, localisation, NIPP and industry certifications (Quality, EHS, Cybersecurity, RGPD, IRIS).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field; additional Project Management certification is a plus.
• 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 8 years in operations management.
• Proven P&L responsibility covering manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing and engineering functions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and deliver on strategic objectives.
