Trainee Airiel Works Inspector (2 Years Fixed Term)

About the role

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is recruiting a Trainee Airiel Works Inspector for a two-year fixed-term contract based in Centurion, Gauteng. The trainee works under the supervision of a qualified inspector to assess the operational safety level of prospective and approved operators. The programme covers certification of air operators, special approvals evaluation and review of operators' documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and monitor compliance of aircraft operations through assessment and periodic, unannounced surveillance.
• Make recommendations to the inspector on issuing or amending the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and its operations specifications, and on the operator's competence to retain its certificate privileges.
• Recommend special conditions, deficiencies to be rectified and appropriate enforcement action.
• Certify air operators and evaluate special approvals.
• Evaluate operators' documents: minimum equipment list, flight operations manuals, standard operating procedures, safety management system manuals, quality management systems, air service licence and foreign operator permits.
• Stay proficient in specialist skills, human factors and new technological developments.

Required profile

• Minimum qualification: Commercial Pilot Licence (added advantage: ATPL).
• 200 flying hours.
• Skilled work level.

All SACAA appointments are subject to S98 of the Civil Aviation Act, 13 of 2009, and successful candidates undergo security vetting. Employment Equity candidates are prioritised. Applications close on 2 November 2026; no response within 90 days is taken as a non-selection.
