Trade Tested Diesel Technician – Commercial Trucks (Fleet/Dealership)

About the role

An opportunity exists for experienced diesel technicians to join a well‑established commercial vehicle dealership group operating multiple busy service centres across South Africa. The role is based in Middelburg and involves working in high‑volume truck workshops servicing a range of commercial vehicle brands for fleet operators, logistics companies and owner‑drivers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, servicing and repairs on commercial trucks and heavy vehicles.
• Identify mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on fleet vehicles.
• Carry out engine, drivetrain, braking, suspension and electrical repairs.
• Attend to roadside breakdowns and provide field service when required.
• Maintain workshop productivity, meet repair time standards and ensure work follows dealership and manufacturer specifications.
• Maintain accurate job cards, service records and technical reports.
• Support workshop foremen and service advisors in resolving complex mechanical faults.
• Uphold safe working practices and workshop housekeeping standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Trade Tested Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Technician certificate (essential).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a commercial truck workshop or dealership environment.
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working on heavy commercial vehicles and trucks.
• Ability to work independently in a busy workshop.
• Willingness to perform breakdown support, overtime and standby duties.
• Own basic tool set and valid Code EC / Code 14 driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Local residency near the branch or willingness to relocate.
