Technical Sales Representative – Cranes & Industrial Equipment (Durban)

About the role

Our client in Durban‑Bayhead is looking for a Technical Sales Representative who will focus on selling cranes and other industrial equipment. The role combines customer‑facing sales activities with technical support, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Promote and support cross‑selling of maintenance contracts, inspections and on‑call services.
• Develop and execute action plans to generate sales leads and penetrate new markets.
• Implement company sales and service strategy to meet sales and profit targets.
• Identify, research and contact prospective customers, building positive relationships.
• Visit existing and new customers within the assigned area, maintaining strong relationships.
• Prepare and follow up offers/quotations using company tools and processes.
• Discuss safety aspects on‑site to ensure technicians can operate safely.
• Report and update sales activities weekly to keep the sales funnel accurate.
• Apply good management practices, including planning, control and preventive actions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of external/technical sales experience, preferably in key‑account or project sales.
• Advanced Certificate in Sales Management.
• Strong independence, focus and ability to work autonomously.
• Competence in sales budgeting and procurement processes from quotation to invoicing.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel across South Africa.
• Medical fitness for site work and ability to comply with health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Experience in health & safety documentation (risk assessments, method statements).

Required skills

• Technical crane knowledge – specifications, load charts and rigging studies.
• Experience in crane‑related operations and logistics.
• Health & safety risk assessment and method‑statement preparation.
• Computer literacy (standard office applications).
