Technical Instructor (Mechanical)

About the role

The Mechanical Technical Instructor will design, deliver and continuously improve training programmes for aircraft maintenance personnel. The role ensures that all training materials, assessments and documentation comply with South African aviation regulations and industry best practice.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update training manuals, SOPs, policies and competency‑based assessment tools.
• Stay current with SACAA regulations, notices and directives, and align training delivery accordingly.
• Design training programmes, including objectives, examinations, practical evaluations and media.
• Facilitate classroom, on‑the‑job and virtual training sessions.
• Assess trainee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and maintain training records.
• Prepare training rooms, equipment and facilities to meet regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with managers to address learning challenges and communicate policy changes.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, advisory committees and suppliers to sustain strong relationships.
• Support audit preparations and respond to audit findings.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Valid AME Instructor licence and current SACAA instructor & assessor certification.
• Completion of Train‑the‑Trainer, Assessor, Moderator and Coaching & Mentoring certifications.
• Diploma or degree in Engineering or a related field (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a mid‑size organisation.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Knowledge of SACAA regulations and company policies.
• Understanding of educational and training techniques and methods.
