Technical Facilities Manager (Fixed Term)

About the role

JLL is hiring a Technical Facilities Manager on a fixed-term basis in Johannesburg. The role oversees the operational performance, maintenance and technical compliance of assigned facilities, ensuring building systems run efficiently, safely and in line with regulations while serving occupants and clients well. It calls for strong technical expertise in building systems, leadership and the ability to manage complex facility operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day technical operations of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, security and building automation systems, and develop preventive maintenance programmes
• Lead and coach a team of technicians, engineers and maintenance staff, and coordinate work assignments
• Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations and environmental standards through regular inspections and audits
• Manage relationships with contractors and vendors, oversee contracts and negotiate service agreements
• Develop and manage operational and capital budgets, prepare financial reports and justify capital improvements
• Act as technical point of contact for clients, handle service requests and communicate planned maintenance
• Plan and deliver capital improvement projects, system upgrades and major maintenance on time and within budget

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in facilities management or building engineering
• At least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role
• Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) licence, Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent, and trade certifications such as EPA Universal, electrical or HVAC

Required skills

• Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire safety, building automation) and energy management
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software
• Ability to lead technical teams, communicate clearly and work independently under pressure

The position is on-site in Johannesburg and requires regular presence at facility locations, including physical work in mechanical spaces and occasional weekend or after-hours work for emergencies.
