Tax Compliance Officer

About the role

The Tax Compliance Officer will ensure full tax compliance for a portfolio of clients, handling the preparation and submission of tax returns, managing SARS queries, and supporting overall tax administration. This position requires strong knowledge of South African tax legislation and the ability to work directly with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit individual, corporate, provisional, VAT, trust, and non‑profit tax returns via SARS e‑Filing.
• Monitor tax deadlines, manage penalties, and ensure timely payments.
• Liaise with SARS on audits, disputes, payment arrangements, and profile issues.
• Maintain tax compliance status, track outstanding returns, and assist with tax clearance applications.
• Communicate tax liabilities and deadlines to clients and gather required information.
• Maintain accurate working papers, tax computations, and compliance trackers.

Required profile

• Qualification in taxation.
• Registered Tax Practitioner (advantageous).
• Proficiency in Afrikaans and English.
• 2–5 years of experience in a tax compliance role, preferably within an accounting practice.
• Experience handling SARS queries and objections.
