Tax Collections Specialist

About the role

The Tax Collections Specialist supports the Beaufort County Tax Collector’s Office by delivering front‑line customer service and handling tax‑related transactions. The role involves assisting taxpayers, attorneys, and real‑estate professionals with inquiries, certifications, and record research.

Key responsibilities

• Answer telephone and in‑person inquiries about tax bills, property records, valuations, and procedures.
• Prepare and issue tax certifications for attorneys, lenders, and taxpayers.
• Process incoming and outgoing mail, enter amounts into the system, and maintain postage records.
• Research property and tax records, verify proof of payment for deed requests, and issue approval stamps.
• Compose and send letters explaining office actions and record returned mail in the database.
• Secure and balance the cash drawer daily, and perform related clerical duties.
• Assist coworkers with delinquent collection research, verify employment and bank information, and post delinquent payments.
• Provide support to other sections of the Tax Office as needed.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a public‑sector environment.
