Tax and Statutory Accountant

About the role

Brambles is hiring a Tax and Statutory Accountant for its Westville, Durban office. The role supports the maintenance and compliance of taxation and financial accounting functions for the SSA region, in line with Group requirements, regulatory standards and IFRS. It is a 12-month contract covering 10 statutory companies and 2 branches, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file tax returns and perform monthly reconciliations of indirect and direct tax accounts.
• Support tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, and maintain tax compliance calendars and SOPs.
• Assist the Taxation functions (Income Tax, CGT, WHT, PAYE, VAT) to produce accurate tax computations, returns, reconciliations, certificates and provisional payments.
• Support the Financial Accounting function: journal preparation, month-end processes, trial balance reviews, balance sheet reconciliations and query resolution.
• Support Companies Act and Statutory compliance, including annual company returns and Stats SA returns.
• Review and submit bi-annual and annual Group results, and prepare local annual financial statements for the group's entities.
• Address tax queries from tax authorities and the business, and follow up on tax-related projects such as Africa Expansion.
• Contribute to the annual budget process, assist with audit deliverables for external and internal auditors, and provide input to the BPO service provider.

Required profile

• B.Com degree (preferred).
• 5 years of finance experience, with exposure to taxation and accounting.
• Experience in a computerised accounting environment, with knowledge of control systems, taxation and company requirements.
