Support Engineer - Java Applications

About the role

NNW Tech Solutions is recruiting a Support Engineer for a leading wealth and asset management company in Sandton, Johannesburg. The role sits within the ICIB tech team and focuses on keeping production systems running smoothly, with a focus on Java-based applications. It suits a proactive, self-starting person who works closely with development, operations and QA teams on change management and incident resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for production systems, specifically Java-based applications.
• Monitor application health and performance using observability tools and logs.
• Investigate and resolve incidents within agreed SLA timelines, perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
• Coordinate with development teams to deploy fixes and improvements.
• Create and maintain support documentation and operational runbooks.
• Support releases, patching and change management processes.
• Ensure security and compliance standards are followed in all support activities.
• Communicate incident updates and risks to stakeholders.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation if required.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (Java 8 or higher).
• Understanding of change management and incident management principles.
• Desirable: ITIL certification or experience, Agile experience, exposure to financial services or investment banking systems, and cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Required skills

• Familiarity with Spring, Spring Boot and other Java frameworks.
• REST APIs and service integration.
• Troubleshooting and log analysis with tools such as Kibana or Splunk.
• SQL and relational databases (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Basic Linux/Unix command line and familiarity with Git.
• Desirable: Prometheus, ELK stack, and experience with financial services systems.
