Supervisor - Furnace

About the role

Abantu Staffing Solutions is recruiting a Supervisor - Furnace in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, on a full-time basis. The supervisor oversees employees, keeps production running smoothly, maintains health and safety standards, monitors equipment and ensures all work is completed correctly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Production and shift management: oversee daily production, check outstanding issues from the previous shift and ensure a proper handover, monitor production standards and correct deviations, communicate production issues and delays to management.
• Staff supervision: monitor attendance and arrange cover when needed, report absenteeism, misconduct and poor performance, hold daily team meetings and toolbox talks, identify training needs and assist with on-the-job training, and take part in employee counselling.
• Health and safety: enforce PPE use and safety rules, take part in safety risk assessments, check that gas cutters have valid hot work permits and fire extinguishers are within expiry, document and report incidents and safety violations to management and the Health and Safety Department.
• Equipment and housekeeping: inspect machinery, vehicles and equipment, maintain daily housekeeping, monitor maintenance activities, follow up on replacement parts and ensure inspections and checklists are completed.
• Administration and reporting: collect and review employee checklists, update reports, ensure production problems and non-conformances are corrected or escalated, complete incident investigation forms by the end of each shift and keep supervisors informed of shift handovers.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent; a relevant Supervisory Certificate is advantageous.
• A valid forklift licence and a valid excavator licence are advantageous.
• Supervisory experience in a production or industrial environment.
• Good attendance, disciplinary and timekeeping record.
• Willingness and availability to work shifts, standby and overtime.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, furnace operations, foundries or similar heavy industrial environments is advantageous.
