Structural Steel Design Co-ordinator

About the role

The Structural Steel Design Co-ordinator plans, coordinates and monitors the entire steel design process, from initial concept through detailing, fabrication support and site installation. Acting as the central link between engineers, detailers, architects, fabricators and site teams, the role ensures safe, accurate and efficient delivery of steelwork packages.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the structural steel design workflow across internal teams, consultants, fabricators and site personnel.
• Review structural and architectural drawings, specifications and design information for completeness, accuracy and buildability.
• Manage design deliverables, drawing issue schedules, RFIs and technical sub‑mittals to meet programme deadlines.
• Support development and review of connection details, framing layouts, member sizing and fabrication requirements.
• Ensure models and drawings are coordinated with architectural, civil and MEP disciplines, identifying clashes and technical risks early.
• Liaise with clients, engineers, architects, subcontractors and suppliers to clarify requirements and maintain design progress.
• Monitor compliance with design codes, project specifications, health & safety and quality procedures.
• Provide technical support during fabrication and erection, responding to site queries and managing design revisions.

Required profile

• Degree, HND or equivalent in Civil, Structural or Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in structural steel design, detailing, fabrication coordination or construction delivery.
• Strong understanding of steelwork, connection design principles, fabrication processes and site erection requirements.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary construction or engineering project teams.
