Structural Engineer - Data Centre

About the role

AECOM is recruiting a full-time Structural Engineer for data centre projects in Cape Town. The engineer works under the supervision of a Senior Engineer on reinforced concrete and structural steel structures, mostly on international projects, and takes responsibility for structural design and drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed structural designs and calculations for commercial and industrial reinforced concrete and steel structures
• Assist with Revit modelling when required
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings
• Be part of a project team, liaising with colleagues and contractors
• Attend planning, design and site meetings and ad-hoc site inspections
• Manage less complicated projects
• Ensure safety and integrity principles are followed in structural documentation and that engineering standards and internal procedures are met

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years' experience designing concrete and steel structures
• Experience designing reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings
• B.Eng. degree; M.Eng. degree preferable
• Some experience leading small design projects, including resource planning and design schedule estimates
• Good communication, analytical, numerical and planning skills, and ability to work under pressure

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, Robot or IDEA Statica
• Revit Structures knowledge is advantageous
• Finite element design of concrete structures, specifically flat slab design
