STEM Subject Matter Expert (Grades 3‑12) – Remote Freelance

About the role

We are looking for highly experienced STEM Subject Matter Experts to create US‑curriculum‑aligned instructional content for learners in grades 3‑12. This remote, project‑based freelance position is ideal for South African educators and curriculum specialists with strong classroom and EdTech backgrounds.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop standards‑aligned STEM instructional materials for grades 3‑12.
• Create engaging lesson plans, assessments, investigations, and problem‑solving activities.
• Simplify complex mathematics and science concepts into accessible digital learning experiences.
• Develop assessments grounded in Bloom’s Taxonomy and measurable learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with instructional design teams to build interactive, digital‑first modules.
• Apply inquiry‑based and problem‑based learning frameworks such as the 5E model.
• Build interactive modules in Articulate Rise and leverage AI tools (training provided).

Required profile

• CAPS‑trained ELA educators with exposure to international curricula (Cambridge, IB, IEB, US Common Core, NGSS).
• Teachers from top‑performing or international schools in South Africa.
• Experienced mathematics and/or science educators.
• Curriculum developers or instructional designers in STEM education.
• International school educators delivering US‑aligned or globally recognised curricula.
• STEM specialists working in EdTech, digital learning, assessment design, or freelance education roles.
• Professionals passionate about inquiry‑based, learner‑centred STEM education.

Required skills

• Proficiency with LaTeX, Desmos, or GeoGebra for mathematical visualisation.
• Experience building interactive modules in Articulate Rise.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted content development tools.
• Ability to design investigations, simulations, and lab‑based learning experiences.
