Specialist Upholsterer

About the role

The Specialist Upholsterer will work in the Prototype department of Bravo Brands Manufacturing, creating high‑quality upholstered samples for new lounge suite ranges. This role translates design concepts into physical prototypes, ensuring comfort, aesthetics, and manufacturability before mass production.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret design briefs, sketches and technical specifications to produce accurate prototype samples.
• Construct first‑off prototypes for new lounge suites within agreed timelines.
• Fit fabric and leather coverings to a high standard of finish.
• Collaborate with designers and product developers to refine fit, form and finish.
• Identify and resolve construction or design flaws before handover to production.
• Provide material and technique recommendations to improve manufacturability.
• Maintain consistency between prototype samples and final production output.
• Record material usage, construction methods and time taken per prototype.
• Supply feedback to design and production teams on required adjustments.
• Maintain accurate records of prototype specifications for handover.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a prototype/sampling environment within furniture manufacturing.
• Relevant trade qualification or certificate in upholstery (advantageous).
• Strong attention to detail, creativity in problem‑solving, and proactive initiative.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Reliability, punctuality and accountability for the quality of work.

Required skills

• Upholstery techniques for fabric and leather.
• Frame construction, foaming and springing knowledge.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, sketches and design specifications.
• Prototype construction and sampling expertise.
• Accurate recording of material usage and construction methods.
