Specialist Professional Nurse

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Professional Nurse with a specialty to join the specialized unit at Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal. The role involves delivering high‑quality nursing care, supervising staff and supporting critical care patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and monitoring objectives of the specialized unit.
• Provide comprehensive, quality nursing care to critically ill patients, including those on ventilation and haemodialysis.
• Supervise nursing and housekeeping staff, ensuring continuity of patient care.
• Coordinate communication between patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Manage duty rosters, staff allocation and leave planning.
• Maintain records, provide statistical information and support staff performance evaluations.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years (Grade 1) or 14 years (Grade 2) of nursing experience after registration with the SANC.
• Degree/Diploma in General Nursing plus a one‑year post‑basic qualification in Critical Care.
• Current registration with SANC as a General Nurse and as a Specialty Nurse.
• Proof of work experience endorsed by the Human Resources Department.
• Commitment to serve a minimum of one year in the position.

What we offer

• Grade 1 salary: R495 423 – R581 931 per annum.
• Grade 2 salary: R607 350 – R752 913 per annum.
