Specialist Occupational Medical Practitioner – 1 Year Contract

About the role

Kumba Iron Ore is seeking a Specialist Occupational Medical Practitioner on a one‑year fixed‑term basis. You will lead the medical function for the mine, ensuring health systems operate efficiently, risks are minimised and regulatory compliance is maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate medical evaluation cases, injury‑on‑duty (IOD) management and return‑to‑work programmes.
• Provide expert advice during medical audits and ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Oversee workplace medical visits, health assessments and chronic condition management.
• Integrate medical findings into the mine’s overall health strategy and support SHE initiatives.
• Escalate unsafe practices, participate in VFLs, risk assessments and safety action close‑outs.

Required profile

• Qualified medical practitioner with experience in occupational health.
• Strong knowledge of South African mining health regulations and the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Proven ability to manage medical cases, audits and health‑capacity assessments.
• Excellent communication skills to advise management, employees and regulatory bodies.
